Review for Discount Armageddon (InCryptid #1) by Seanan Mcguire

Discount Armageddon (Incryptid, #1)Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

this was a fun and action packed read.

[brief background]
Verity is a cryptozoologist (but she's really a dancer at heart..or maybe both), and a Price. Her family broke away from the Covenant some generations ago. The covenant is basically a genocidal group that thinks that every other race except for the humans are dangerous, possibly evil, and a threat to all of humanity.

Verity is a quirky, sometimes snarky character, maybe slightly crazy. Then again, all of the characters have tilted a bit on the crazy side, except for Dominic, he's just misled/brainwashed and learning to deal with the crazy world that is Discount Armageddon.

Like I said before this book is crazy fun (be sure to check out the crazy partying/religious mice -> Yes do you not see by my overuse of the word crazy that this book is crazy)

Will be looking forward to the next book ^_^

Review for Black Heart (Curse Workers #3) by Holly Black

Black Heart (Curse Workers, #3)Black Heart by Holly Black
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

[more a review of the series than anything else]

WHat can I say? I really loved this series. Like it caught me right there in the heart.

Cassel is a person who from the first book to the last has been struggling with doing what's right from what's wrong. As I said before he is a grey character and not only that he's many different shades of grey. He's met with decisions to make that can be wrong or wrong, because when we look at it in black or white, you really can't say. In the end though he pulls through although there are some decisions I'm not sure how to feel about them *cough*Barron*cough* I won't say anything more on that hand, when you read the book you may know what I'm talking about.

Another thing I loved about this book, is the plot or the fact that Cassel is who he is. A con-artist, (I have a weak spot for those books) and we hear Cassels voice clearly when he's talking about how a scam works, and you (the reader) are right there with him as he makes the scam. You're following him step-by-step and hoping it works out alright.

Cassel also has his friends to support him, and I love their dynamic together. Sam's a good person and so is Daneca, and I think if it weren't for those two, Cassel would've tipped over that very very very thin line his walking.

I'm also glad the Lila-Cassel relationship was resolved. I think how it worked out was pretty fitting too.

Agh Barron what to say about him? I think he's the most confusing character (i don't mean it in a bad way) that I've met, in that I cannot get a grip on who he is. I think a part of that is because Cassel in his own way, although he loves his family, doesn't know either. But there's a part of you, or me at least, when you see glimpses of him being human, that you just can't help but hope that everything works out alright for him in the end.

Well if you're reading this review and contemplating whether or not you should read this, I say go for it. It's a wonderful and entertaining read.

Review for White Cat by Holly Black (Curse Workers #1)

White Cat (Curse Workers, #1)White Cat by Holly Black
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Not sure what genre it falls under, which is why I have both the paranormal and urban fantasy genre.

Now onto the review XD...I have been waiting to read this book from the moment it came out, although I have read, or at least started Tithe by the same author, but I just couldn't get into the book and dropped it. Fortunately this was not the case this book ^_^

And I must say I am a sucker for the con-artist type books.

Plot-wise this book was pretty good, it kept twisting and turning so the reader is in for some surprises, and even if they guessed them, the book is written in a way that you'll still enjoy the reveal.

Cassel's family is...wow, well let's just say they have some things they need to work out, and though Cassel himself is a grey character, you'll still want to root for him, because I think where it counts he's not so bad. (love the grandpa) and well that ending was a whopper...not a cliff hanger per se...but still a whopper

Review for A Confusion of Princes by Garth Nix

A Confusion of PrincesA Confusion of Princes by Garth Nix
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Khemri is a prince of the Empire and as such believes that ultimately he will become prince. This is understandable, due to the factt that when he was a toddler he was isolated, and basically taught to believe he would be Emperor. Unfortunately for Khem, as the book progresses, he begins to realise this is not necessarily so, and also, some truths about the Empire.

Oh man, I really wanted to like this book, the cover was pretty and the summary sounded intriguing, and I guess in a way it was, but the book from the beginning confused me. I guess it's because this is, the first really detailed sci-fi book I've read. My only other sci-fi encounters (that I can recall) have been watching Star Wars (the six movies) and reading Academy 7.

Even afterwards though, when I got a somewhat loose hold on the world, the pacing was so slow. Usually I wouldn't mind that, (Some may say Starcrossed by Elizabeth C. Bunce was a bit slow to start, but I loved it regardless), but with A Confusion of Princes, I had to pause it and start up another book.

This only really started to pick up by Chapter 15/16, which is more than halfway into the book.

That said, I did enjoy the latter part (which saved it from a 2.5 star rating), and it didn't feel as tedious to read through. And although, I couldn't understand fully most of it, you can tell that planning went into the world-building of this book.

Extra Points for being a stand-alone too. (^_^)

Cover Love

Hey, so I'm making another post...just because I went on goodreads and found out that the sequel to . And, well I'm a person who loves book covers, like seriously. Granted there have been times when book covers have let me down *cough*Marked*cough*. The book covers were amazing for that series, unfortunately, the books were horrible. I don't even know why I read the first 6 books. *bangs head*.

Anyway, enough about the-series-that-shall-not-be-named. I am talking about Prodigy, Book Two in the Legend Series by Marie Lu. The first book Legend was fun, quick, very enjoyable and action-packed, so if you're looking for something like that, go check it out. And now for the main point XD...the cover has been released. ZOMG!, yes it is true. And while it's not as purdy as Legend's own (which was still pretty simple in design) it's still nice enough for me to have some cover love for it.

Prodigy (Legend, #2)
Oh and another cover that grabbed me...

Poison Princess by Kresley Cole
Poison Princess (The Arcana Chronicles, #1)
It seems like Kresley Cole is dipping her feet into the YA genre. No problem, I'll check it out and see if it's any good.

Oh and just one more cover love...heh, you have to understand...I love pretty covers like no tomorrow.

Dragon Games (Books of Umber #2) by P.W. Catanese

Dragon Games (The Books of Umber, #2)Dragon Games by P.W. Catanese
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

We started out Dragon Games in the midst of another of Umber's adventures. Really it is fun reading what the gang get's into. In my opinion it was better than the first ^_^

We find out more about Hap and who he used to be and how exactly, Hap as we know him came to be. It was really good to see Hap find himself in this book, that is to say, you see him growing more confident. Of course all he really would like to do is go home to the Aerie, but as the story progresses we see him continue to come into his own.

Of course it was fun to see everyone else as well Oates and Umber are always a blast. Unfortunately (just for me) there wasn't much screen time for Sophie, but we did learn something more about her past, so huzzah ^_^

The End of Time (Books of Umber #3) by P.W. Catanese

The End of Time (The Books of Umber, #3)The End of Time by P.W. Catanese
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

We start off the book with Umber falling into his moods, in fact this one is the worst yet, as a result of what happened in the previous book. Balfour, who hopes to restore Umber to his regular self, takes him (or rather kidnaps because he refuses to go) on an adventure. Luckily, something happens on the adventure to bring Umber back to his old self again ^_^ After this the reader and the gang are thrown into numerous fast paced adventures.

I loved this book. No lie. The plot, from the first book, has been tightly placed and there are no unnecessary fillers. Hap really comes into his own in this one as he accepts his role of a Meddler. Most (if not all) the mysteries surrounding the Meddlers have been revealed. We also get a better understanding of how the Meddlers think.

So we've come to the conclusion of this trilogy that has action, adventure, fantasy, mystery, and a sprinkling of romance and it was a satisfying end. We get a glimpse into all our favourite character's lives also ^_^

ahh Oates you big lug, I'm going to miss you. Umber and your eccentric ways *sniffles* and lastly Hap, may you have an adventure of a lifetime ;) (*hint* you probably will in your old age )

Brave "Families Legend" Trailer

Okay, so this has probably been seen by most of guys already, but I just *have* to share. I mean seriously, this movie looks like it's going to be epic!...although, personally...I will admit...even if it's not...*take deep breath*....I will have watched it for the accents alone. XD

Yes I know it's not the best of reasons to watch a movie, but come on. Do you not hear the stupendousness that  is the accent?

Okay...fine...but 'nuff said. I like it...What'd you guys think?

Hello Saturday!

Hey, guys...or should I say the non-existent people who I delusionally think are reading this? heh...this is going to be rather short because, I really did have something to say...Unfortunately...it has slipped my mind (O.O) Yes I am a bit scattered-brain...but it's okay...it's alright ..I may edit the post as soon as I remember what I wanted to write...

Review for The Gathering (Darkness Rising #1) by Kelley Armstrong

The Gathering (Darkness Rising, #1)The Gathering by Kelley Armstrong
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a pretty good read.

This series seems to be paced like the Darkest Powers Trilogy (from which this series is a sequel..I think), in that the ending of the first book in that the climax isn't BAM! in your face and it's not really a cliffhanger hanger...I don't know how to explain it, but if you've read the Darkest Powers, I think you'll know what I mean.

Maya is a strong character and she's unfolding - as the story progresses- the truth about herself. One thing I loved about this was that the parents in the book were actually involved in the main characters life because more often that not in YA paranormal/fantasy the parents are barely there. It's nice to see that they play a role here.

Rafe (the mysterious bad boy but not really aka love interest) I'm not sure of, sure I'm rooting for them, but I haven't gotten enough information about him to say how I truly feel about him as a person. We do get a fair amount of scene time..I'm just greedy ( :P )

Daniel is a dear [the protective best friend). Right now (anything can happen later..I doubt it though) he and Maya are just best friends, and I love their relationship. And I'm pretty sure that he's not exactly human

The town itself is...well let's just say I want to know just exactly what these research people are up to.

Overall it was a fun and quick read.

Update From Melina Marchetta's Blog (Lumatere Chronicles)

Okay so I logged into my goodreads account today, and I saw that Melina Marchetta (author of one of my favourite seresi the Lumatere Chronicles) posted an update, and I was like cool. Then I saw it was an update about Quintana of Charyn and I was like :O aahmazing...lol...it's not much really but, here's a link to the post

Blog Post

I feel so happy and squishy inside...not long 'til Quintana of Charyn comes out. *Squees*

o.O Ah who am I kidding this wait is going to be horrendous, not to mention that, that's when it comes out in Australia, the US edition is going to take a while longer. TT_TT Oh you publishers why must you be so mean. On the bright side though, FishPond allows worldwide shipping...I think..

Well for all you lurkers around here...and for all you fantasy lovers who haven't read the Lumatere Chronicles. I suggest you do, for it has in everything in everything a good fantasy book needs (or at least in my opinion) Fantasy (duh), adventure, action and romance, you have all those balanced perfectly, and Voila! a recipe for an amazing book, which the Lumatere Chronicles are.

Book 1: Finnikin of the Rock
Book 2: Froi of the Exiles <- Love the cover for that one
Book 3:Quintana of Charyn <- To be released Oct. 2012
Oh and for those who have heard of it, tell me what you think ;)
